have i really not blogged in over a week?

hmm... well, went to iowa again over the weekend. blissful bliss. lots of blissful bliss with beloved.

but as for the rest of my life, today krista, yoga teacher/writer/writing coach extraordinairre (who in lincoln is making $100/hour for the kinds of stuff she shares with me) shared this quote:

"creativity is the currency of the post-millenium."

it's fun to hear what people make of the creativity/abundance (basically "the secret" etc) talk out there... can sound like a bunch of baloney to the uninitiated, but there really are infinite possibilities to what we can do with creativity.

as for what i'm trying to do with it, i'm loving both my literary non-fiction class and my historical travel writing classes. i won't bore you with the details. but i'm spinning quite the story of my summer for the first class. i think it will read well. i'm glad to be taking this class. i knew i needed to take that class for a reason. this writing that i'm doing this semester is intended to get me into the phd program in creative writing. so i may not post a lot here because i'm kind of busy with other projects.

but i can put up a little freewriting here.

we had to share an emotional object today and take notes on each other's emotional objects. then we had to choose the most fascinating story and write about it. i wrote about a chinese female classmate's story... (i'm not calling this prize-winning writing by the way, it's just writing).

i think i was most surprised by the story of how she got the jade necklace. her mother traveled all the way from the u.s. to the outback of china (the western side when most of the population of china lives on the eastern side) to get this necklace from a buddhist monk, to keep her daughter safe after she was hit by a car. it seems to me like that could have been a dangerous journey for the mother to take herself, and yet i guess the jade has special properties to ward off evil spirits. i just cannot imagine taking such a journey for a necklace, as much as i like buddhist monks, jade, and necklaces.

her mother must really love her to want to keep her that safe. her mother must really trust in her belief in the power of the necklace.

now that i think about it, she seems to have a pretty buddhist approach herself (my unnamed classmate). she said she broke the windshield of the car, that was all, when it hit her, almost like she was unattached to the situation, to the fact that she could have been seriously injured/died.

i liked the way her story was understated and yet was big and meaningful and full of brave and quiet love. i am glad they are both safe and that, though she wants to wear the necklace constantly, she does not wear it in bed (as choking on the safety necklace would in fact defeat the purpose).
